the week in review, part 1

This week has been...full. Serenity had both a band concert and a dance recital. The kids had friends spend the night on Saturday, we had doctor's appointments and Girl Scout meetings. Top it all off with an ancient Greek feast and Mother's Day, and that's our life in a nutshell.

Caspian wanted to get dressed up and watch Serenity's band concert, so he donned his cowboy boots and his tie, and cheered on his sister. It's easy to pick out the sound of her oboe, because she is the only one on that instrument and it has such a unique and clear sound.

Saturday, Micah spent the day digging a hole in the ground for our new bonfire pit. The VanHeuveln's brought us an old tractor tire rim and Micah put a grate over it. Jeff Armstrong, our next-door neighbor, even came just to help. Thanks Jeff! We'll get our garage painted before your son's graduation open house. Don't you worry!

I got a lovely suprise this weekend. My dear little Charlie out in New Jersey hasn't forgotten me! He sent me beautiful lillies! Their perfume fills the kitchen, where I spend a majority of my day. Thanks for remembering me, you darling boy!

On mother's day, all 7 of us went to the city park and played and worked on weeding the flower beds. Then we came home and had our first bonfire in the new fire pit. Micah made popcorn and we roasted marshmallows. Later, after the kids were in bed, Micah and I were enjoying the fire, when our neighbor's father came over with a guitar and serenaded us in Spanish! You just never know what's going to happen next around here, it seems.
